Pop-Up City Pavilion
Our proposal for the RIAS and EAA design competition was to create a temporary pavilion, which explored the theme of layers. The concept was developed through the design of the pavilions envelope with an inner and outer timber frame with a polycarbonate skin between providing the weatherproofing envelope. The structural expression and pavilions materiality was carefully considered to provide an appropriate contextual response, intended to act as a beacon or marker within the townscape and valley.
The polycarbonate skin allows both natural light to enter during the daytime and to omit artificial light at night time - providing two distinct characteristics and modes (day & night). In parallel the surface of the pavilion acts as a screen for projections to be cast both internally and externally.
