Mills + McCullough are an award winning Architecture Practice with studios in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. We work with private clients and organisations to create buildings that have rich character and lasting impact.

Nick + Stephen formed the studio in 2017 to pursue their joint aspiration to create architecture that was socially and environmentally sustainable.  Working with homeowners and communities the studio create wholesome places that make the most of their setting. We design with people at the centre and develop positive, collaborative relationships with consultants and construction trades. We love working with our clients from the big picture, right down to the finer detail.

Thoughtfully Crafted

"Working with materials has always fascinated me. My interest in design and construction was born as I helped my Dad with his joinery work - a process that revealed the all important connection between thinking and making. This influenced my passion to ensure that the craft of making buildings remained at the heart of my work. Our studio provides a platform for this - crafting places that enrich the everyday. The personal journey with our clients, from first conversation to handover, is something that brings Nick and I great joy."

Our Studio

We formed the studio in 2017 to pursue our joint aspiration to work closely with clients to design well-crafted places for life to flourish. While our experience is diverse - we share a passion to work with homeowners and communities to create wholesome places that enrich lives and make the most of their setting.

Our work is multi-faceted – we bring vision, design with people at the centre, detail from a rich knowledge of construction and develop positive relationships with construction trades. We love working with our clients from the big picture, right down to the finer detail.

“The challenge of turning ideas into reality is why I love what I do.  This passion emerged during my studies and was catalysed in practice while working at Stanton Williams in London. It was evident that good architecture emerged from a considered design process - exploring ideas and construction details through working models and regular design reviews.  This experience influenced how I approach design and fuelled a desire to create with Stephen an inspirational studio work environment.  Stephen and I bring together different skills, experience, and knowledge – we balance each other and work collaboratively to bring our clients vision to reality.”

Aspirations

We aspire to work with people who have a passion to create extraordinary places. Working together we ensure the buildings we make are in harmony with their setting and the people who use them. We set up our studio to be approachable, provide a personal design service and support our client’s journey.

If our work and approach resonate with you, we would love to chat about how we can work together. All our projects are a joint venture – the variety of our work is brought through the unique challenges and aspirations our clients bring to the process.
